Rega Institute Our understanding of the pathogenesis and the zoonotic transmission of hepatitis E virus (HEV) have been limited by the inability to efficiently propagate these viruses in vitro. The classification of HEV strains is based on the analyses of nucleotide/amino acids sequences of the genome, general criteria for demarcation among different subtypes are still not well defined. The purpose of this scientist exchange visit will be to fully characterize the entire genome of four HEV strains detected from Italian wild boars. Since the number of Italian HEV sequences has increased during the last years a phylodinamic and/or phylogeography analysis will be performed to understand the circulation of HEV in Italy. The movement of HEV strains from Europe to Italy and vice versa establishing the origin of HEV-3 genotype strains in Europe and Italy. The results of the proposed project will help to clarify the geographical origin of HEV in wild boar in Italy and their evolutionary correlations. € 3.650,00
