AFRICAN SWINE FEVER - UKRAINE: RECURRENCE, WILD SWINE

African swine fever (ASF) was registered in Luhansk region. ASF has not been diagnosed in Ukraine since 2012, the press service of the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service of Ukraine reports.

According to the Veterinary Service, the last case of African swine fever in Ukraine was registered in 2012 in Zaporizhya region.

According to the Main Department of Veterinary Medicine in Luhansk region, specialists of the State Border Service of Ukraine found a dead wild boar in the river in Luhansk region on 5 Jan 2014. On 6 Jan 2014, the laboratory diagnosis and veterinary-sanitary inspection confirmed African swine fever.

African Swine Fever Continues to Spread

African swine fever continues to spread among wild boars living in sanctuaries in the Volgograd Region.

Tests were carried out on 16 December at the Volgograd regional veterinary laboratory. Animals from the state reserve in Olkhovskiy Municipal District, Volgograd region, were selected for the test. The genetic material used in the test pointed out the presence of the ASF pathogen. Currently, specialists are focusing on the Volgograd region under the supervision of the Office of Rosselkhoznadzor for Rostov and Volgograd regions and the Republic of Kalmykia.


 

PORCINE EPIDEMIC DIARRHEA - USA: (NORTH CAROLINA)

Cooler weather seems to have caused a dramatic spike in cases of porcine epidemic diarrhea (PED) virus, according to a report today [25 Oct 2013]. PED virus has spread to about 250 farms since June 2013.

PORCINE REPRODUCTIVE AND RESPIRATORY SYNDROME - CHILE: (SANTIAGO)

Affected population: Swine: breeding females and their offspring. Main clinical signs in females: cough, fever, loss of appetite, blue ears, vulvar edema, abortions, premature births, increase of the number of  mummified fetuses and birth of weak offspring; in piglets: respiratory  distress and diarrhea.
