Parole chiave: mangime sottoscrofa, incremento medio giornaliero, peso allo svezzamento
The aim of this study was to evaluate the best piglets feed strategy in farrowing room in order to decide what kind of diet could be used in the farm where the study was performed. In a 700 sows herd were formed three different groups of piglets with three different diets: GV group which was provided a diet with sow’s milk + ad libitum feed, a group GR which the food was rationed, and a control group GC which was made possible only access to the sow’s milk. During the study individual batch of piglets were weighed at 1, 7, 14, 21 and 28 days of life and the feed intake was recorded for each group. It was also recorded the time that the laborer has taken to prepare and to administrate the food to the piglets. At weaning time piglets average weight was: 8.53 Kg GV – GR 8.47 Kg – GC 7.37 Kg. The study showed that piglets who were provided with a supplementary food + sow’s milk gets an average daily gain (ADG) and a weaning weight higher. Economic analysis was conducted to quantify feed cost and the time taken by the operator to prepare and to administrate the feed: the work shows that the best strategy from an economic point of view is to adopt rationed diet as for GR group.
